Title: A Knee for Christ: Unwavering Commitment in a Toxic Culture
Scripture: Psalms 44:1-8
Thought to Remember: Too many Christians have a commitment of convenience.
~Charles Stanley
Talking Points: In what ways may I take a knee for Christ? How may I commit a random act of kindness?
Prayer: Lord, help me to let my light shine as a testament to you.
Several years ago, controversy accompanied the beginning of the NFL football season. The swirl centered on the refusal of Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players to stand during the National Anthem in protest of police brutality.
Would Christ take a knee with Colin Kaepernick?
Jesus Christ ‘took a knee’ for and with humanity all the way to the cross.
Christ would indeed kneel in protest of any institution or country or system that would deny human beings basic rights. Jesus Christ demonstrated this attitude with an unwavering commitment.
He constantly restored the finer elements of human life – sight, life, loved ones – much to the chagrin of the civic and religious powerbrokers who opposed him and back to where God as Creator intended them.
Will you take a knee for Christ?
Taking a knee for Christ means we rededicate ourselves to service for others. This attitude is characterized by three attitudes.
One, it means we humble ourselves, as opposed to haughtiness (Colossians 3:12).
Two, it means we stand for peace and justice for every person, regardless of economic location (Isaiah 61:8).
Third, it means we no longer see others in light of how they have been treated – no longer a ‘slave’ but rather as a brother (Leviticus 19:34).
God’s unwavering commitment to us inspires us to unwavering commitment for one another, even when culture is opposed to that commitment.
What do we need more of?
Christians taking a knee for Christ!
